Dr. Martina Doehler-Behzadi has been serving as the Managing Director of IBA Thüringen GmbH since May 1, 2014. She obtained a degree in urban planning from the Hochschule für Architektur und Bauwesen (HAB) Weimar, followed by research studies. Dr. Doehler-Behzadi's professional career began in 1984 when she worked for several years as an urban planner for the chief architect of the city of Leipzig. Subsequently, she established herself as a freelance urban planner in Leipzig. From 2007 to 2014, she held the position of Head of Department for Building Culture and Urban Monument Protection in the Federal Ministry of Building. In this role, she oversaw the nationwide network of IBA stakeholders in recent years, gaining familiarity with the IBA processes in Germany. Dr. Martina Doehler-Behzadi was born in Berlin in 1957 and has two grown-up daughters.

Alexander Köhler Assistant to the Management, Commercial Assistant

Alexander Köhler has been working as an assistant to the management since 2017, providing support to the IBA team. After completing his secondary education, he pursued an apprenticeship as a retail salesman and further qualified himself as a certified business administrator. Prior to joining IBA Thuringia, he worked in administration in the food retail sector.

Kai Dolata | Project Manager

Kai Dolata is a project manager at IBA Thuringia. He studied architecture at the Technical University of Dresden and is a member of the urbikon.com group. He also taught as a research assistant in urban and regional planning at the University of Kassel. With several years of experience as a project manager in the IT sector, as well as having served as the Chief Financial Officer at Flussbad Berlin e.V. from 2014 to early 2020, he is well-versed in financial and organizational structures. Since January 2020, he has brought his experience to the IBA Thuringia team.

Katja Fischer | Program and Project Manager

Katja Fischer is an architect. She is part of the IBA (International Building Exhibition) founding team and works as a program and project manager for IBA Thuringia. After studying at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, she taught and conducted research in housing construction, urban and regional development, and served as a guest professor at WAAC (US). The main focus of her work is existing structures and their transformation, from strategic contributions to actual construction implementation.
She is responsible for the minimal-invasive expansion, experimental appropriation formats, and public communication of the Eiermann building in Apolda, which is under the auspices of IBA Thuringia. In 2019, she curated the IBA interim presentation, and in the IBA final year of 2023, she is curating the StadtLand Forum in cooperation with the Wüstenrot Foundation.
Since 2012, she has been involved with the network of International Building Exhibitions. She also serves as an advisor for the development of guidelines for architectural culture in Germany and is part of the expert group for the Zukunft Bau research funding. As of 2023, she is a guest professor at the University of Kassel, where she works with the StadtLandStudio on regional, resource-related transformation tasks.

Kerstin Faber | Project Manager

Kerstin Faber is a planner and urbanist who specializes in developing new spatial images and collaborative design processes. She studied architecture in Dessau and Fort Lauderdale, USA. From 2003, she worked as a project developer for the IBA Stadtumbau 2010 and co-curated the final exhibition of the International Building Exhibition at the Bauhaus Dessau. Afterwards, she became a lecturer at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in the department of International Urban Development and founded the project office Franz Faber in Leipzig. Since spring 2014, she has been the project manager for the IBA Thuringia and was responsible for the first IBA exhibition, STADTLAND. Kerstin Faber is also a co-editor of the publication 'Spatial Pioneers in Rural Regions', along with Philipp Oswalt (Spector Books, Leipzig 2013).

Tobias Haag | Project Manager

Tobias Haag is a member of the IBA Thuringia founding team and co-author of the 2011 IBA Feasibility Study. He studied architecture at the Bauhaus University Weimar and gained professional experience at various architectural firms, both nationally and internationally, including Burkhalter&Sumi Architekten in Zurich and Mitchell&Giurgola in New York. In 2006, he established the architectural office A21 architektur + kommunikation. Between 2006 and 2011, he was involved in research and teaching at the Bauhaus University Weimar, working at the Chair of Design and Housing. Since 2011, he has been serving as a project manager at the IBA Thuringia, with a particular interest in sustainable regional building with wood.

Ulrike Rothe | Project Manager

Ulrike Rothe is a member of the founding team of the IBA Thuringia. During the preparation phase, she worked at the Thuringian Ministry for Building, Regional Development, and Transport, where she co-authored the IBA Feasibility Study. Previously, she worked at the IBA Fürst-Pückler-Land (IBA see) in project development, where she headed the communication and visitor center departments, and served as the overall manager for the final year of the IBA see in 2010. Ulrike Rothe is a trained hand weaver, and she studied painting/graphics in Schneeberg, architecture in Weimar, Stuttgart, and Copenhagen. She has worked in a Swiss-German architecture and design office and in the field of landscape architecture at the universities of Karlsruhe (with Prof. Dieter Kienast and Prof. Henri Bava) and Berkeley (USA), among other universities. She is a member of the Chamber of Architects and the German Werkbund and has chaired the Saxon Werkbund for several years. She is also the chairwoman of Kunstlandschaft Pritzen e.V.

Dr. Bertram Schiffers | Project Manager

Dr. Bertram Schiffers is an urban planner and project manager at the IBA Thuringia. He studied architecture at RWTH Aachen University and urban planning at Columbia University in New York. Following this, he worked in the urban projects office in Leipzig. In his doctoral thesis at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research, he explored the real estate market in shrinking cities. Afterward, he worked as a freelancer, lecturer, and at the Thuringian Court of Audit. He is particularly interested in the development of existing building stock and the key actors driving change in cities and rural areas. At the IBA, he co-founded the LeerGut agents and served as an advisory board member of the Immovielien network.

Dorothee Schmidt | ​Event Manager, Leasing and marketing Open Factory

Dorothee Schmidt has been a valuable member of the IBA team since July 2017 as an event manager, and since 2020, she has also been part of the Open Factory project team. She studied tourism at the University of Applied Sciences in Munich and worked at the Romantik Hotel auf der Wartburg, where she gained experience in events, sales, marketing, and public relations until 2017. From 2015 to 2017, she worked as a partner in an event agency in Witten (NRW) and managed trade fair construction and events, focusing on personnel and logistics planning.

Elisa Wrobel | Press and public relations

Elisa Wrobel joined the IBA Thuringia team in February 2018 as Press and Public Relations Officer. Prior to this, she completed her Master's degree in Language and Communication at TU Berlin and worked as a trainee at Medienanstalt Hamburg/Schleswig-Holstein for two years. She has also worked for RBB, the Press Office North of Deutsche Post/DHL, and N24. Elisa is originally from Jena

Kim Marie Müller | Curatorial assistance

Kim-Marie Müller is a curatorial assistant at IBA Thuringia. She studied architecture in Kassel and has been involved in the communication and mediation of architecture since her studies. She joined the IBA team in April 2021, initially supporting Elisa Wrobel in press and public relations. Since 2022, she has been part of the exhibition team.

Nina Zerche | Curatorial assistance

Nina Zerche is also a curatorial assistant at IBA Thuringia. She studied geography, art history, and social sciences in Berlin, Cadiz, and Leipzig. During her studies, she worked at various geographical institutes and specialized in urban, social, and cultural geography. She was awarded the Geographical Society of Leipzig 2020 prize for her final thesis on peripherisation and collective identity. After her studies, she worked at the Office for Housing and Urban Renewal of the City of Leipzig. Since August 2021, she has been supporting the IBA Thuringia as a curatorial assistant.
